In this webinar the authors of the HBR article “What holds back Corporate Social Innovators”, Thijs Gerards (Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at Utrecht University) and Maarten van Herpen (social entrepreneur), will explain why it is so hard for corporates to achieve innovations that have both business and societal payoffs and how corporates can overcome these challenges. There will also be a panel discussion where besides Maarten and Thijs also Sjaak Griffioen (Director Innovation, Sustainability and Strategy at DSM) and Ling Ling Phung (3rd author of the HBR article and Corporate Social Innovation Expert) will join the panel, sharing their insights on social innovations within corporates.

Many corporates aspire to find innovative solutions to society’s problems as reflected in the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Motivated by a growing sense of social responsibility and profit potential, corporates view social and ecological problems as opportunities to develop new products, services, and markets.

After their presentation we will have interactive virtual roundtable discussions, using the same immersive virtual space we used during our Corporate Venturing & Entrepreneurship Summit 2020. During these discussions you can share your experiences and lessons learned and formulate questions for the panel discussion afterwards. Besides Maarten and Thijs also Sjaak Griffioen (Director Innovation, Sustainability Strategy at DSM) and Ling Ling Phung (3rd author of the HBR article and Corporate Social Innovation Expert) will join the panel, sharing their insights on social innovations within corporates.
